Commonwealth Championship Press Conference

The Championships have been given a huge boost by a successful press launch on Monday 27 July. Held at Keswick’s picturesque Theatre By The Lake, a gathering of stars ensured a big press attendance from reporters, photographers and TV crews.

Athletes at the launch included legendary Lakeland fell running champions Kenny Stuart and Joss Naylor, alongside multiple distance-running record holders Don Ritchie and Eleanor Robinson. The current England mountain-running team were represented by manager Bashir Hussain with team members Victoria Wilkinson, Pippa Jackson and Mark Croasdale.

Speakers at the event included Championships organiser Norman Wilson, Keswick Mayor Andrew Lysser and Sheldon Phillips representing main sponsor the Northwest Development Agency. All underlined the importance of the Championships both to the future of mountain and distance running, and to the Cumbria region. As Andrew Lysser said; “As the spiritual home of mountain running, these Championships will be a memorable opportunity for Commonwealth athletes from around the world to compete in a magnificent Lakeland setting”.
